I have been environmentally friendly my entire life! This fact is proven by the fact that I am honored to be the only City Council Candidate to receive the endorsement from The Sierra Club. The ongoing dramatic effects of climate change and global warming, globally and locally, are alarming. Firstly, San Luis Obispo can be part of the solution if we can prevent population or job growth from outstripping our finite resources. Secondly, we need to be smarter about retrofits and new construction. In order to achieve California’s 2020 goal of net zero in carbon, new commercial and residential development will have to capitalize on natural daylighting, maximize roof areas to accommodate solar panel arrays and limit the height of buildings that would otherwise create heat islands and block solar access to other buildings. We need to promote alternative fuel transit and peer-to-peer carsharing.
